YOUNG gun cricketer Jake Greenberg has been selected for the Under-13 NSW Emerging Blues Academy, one of only 14 players from across the state to earn a coveted spot.

The former Maccabi star has gone from strength to strength in recent seasons, featuring regularly at representative level for the South Eastern Junior Cricket Association.

Now he gets the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of the likes of current Australia test skipper Michael Clarke and batting sensation David Warner.

“He’s got an unbelievable passion for the game,” Greenberg’s dad Glen told The AJN.

“As his dad, it impresses me how much he loves it so we are absolutely ecstatic that Jake is getting a chance to play at such a high level.”

Glen noticed his son’s obsession with cricket at an early age while attending Test matches.

“It seems an unusual sport for a kid to love at a young age – the amount of time and concentration involved in watching,” Glen said.

“But since he was five, Jake could go to the SCG and watch a five-day Test match, totally focused and loving every single minute.”

Greenberg first picked up a bat when he was only two years old and his love for playing cricket has increased ever since.

Having developed into a star batsman, Greenberg will now look to develop his game under the tutelage of the best coaches in the business.

“The program is designed to create a pathway towards professional cricket,” Glen said.

“Getting the kids started at an early age allows them to get used to an elite system and play with other elite kids.”

A huge chance awaits Greenberg to follow his dream of becoming a professional cricketer, but Glen said they’re just relishing the moment.

“There are a lot of parents who want their kids to play at a high level,” he said.

“I’m just happy to see how much Jake is enjoying what he’s doing and if he succeeds at it that’s just a bonus.”
