Maccabi Touch set for winter competition

The Maccabi NSW Touch Football Club has launched its first ever Winter Social League on the back of the success of its inaugural competition in summer.

The Maccabi NSW Touch Football Club has launched its first ever Winter Social League on the back of the success of its inaugural competition in summer.

The winter tournament, to be held on Saturday afternoons at Christison Park, will be a mixed format.

After introducing a new wave of male players to the club in summer, club president David Weiner said his committee hopes this exciting new project will do the same for girls in winter.

“In winter, the only touch football competitions available are early Sunday mornings and we understand that that’s not an ideal time slot for everyone,” Weiner told The AJN.

“So, we’re trying to do something about it so everyone can enjoy the sport, all year round. This social run-around is to complement everyone’s other sporting priorities in winter, not compete against it, and we hope to see plenty of new faces come and join us.

“We didn’t field a women’s team last summer.

“Hopefully this competition can be the catalyst for one in 2013-2014.”
