THE Maccabi Touch Football Club is at the halfway point of its summer season, with several of its sides sitting in the top four, aiming for success after the New Year break.

The Goldies, who sit equal first in mixed division 11, and Mob 2, which has been promoted to mens division 7, are in the strongest positions in their leagues heading into 2013.

In the top tier, Maccabi’s Tuesday mixed side, Magic, is sitting in second spot in division 2, after playing out a thrilling 7-7 draw against Flamingos last week.

Ben Stern scored a treble and Yotam Hatzvi a double, while Yoni Sonnabend and Richie Eisenstein also crossed the stripe.

In other mixed action, Mobags returned to the winners’ circle last week on the back of strong displays from the side’s youngsters. Ella Reagan-Lacey bagged two tries, while Paul Edelstein and Alice Kriesler were impressive.

Mobags 2 went down 8-7 in division 6, but put up a great fight in one of the team’s most exciting displays this season.

A hat-trick to Joel Weiner, a double to Sam Cantori and tries to Nicky Goldberg and Yonni Henley got the side within a whisker of victory.

Meanwhile, the first Maccabi men’s side to compete in the Wednesday night league has also started strongly and sits in the top four.

Top performers so far have been David Bloch, Daniel Kochan and Josh Golombick, while the side will be strengthened with the return of Dave Mizrahi set to bolster the team’s stocks.

In division-one action, Mob enjoyed a bye, while the Naturals continued to perform competitively, being nudged 7-4 on Thursday.

Hatzvi has been the standout performer each week, closely followed by Sonnabend and Ben Nemeny.

The club’s junior side has ended the season on a winning streak in the Eastern Suburbs Junior competition.

Noah Paris finished 2012 as the side’s top try scorer, while Riley Kovkin and Leo Carroll have also been outstanding.

Eytan Taub has been a spark for the side, twins Dovi and Kovi Smith are putting in regular strong performances, Beau Glass has showed outstanding potential, Adam Marks’s efforts have been tireless and Adam Lipschitz and Josh Lever have been solid each week as well.

Club president David Weiner is thrilled with the boys’ improvement and hopes their success can be a cata- lyst for the club’s junior program to grow in years to come.
