MDA smashes target

THEY set their sights on collecting donations of $120,000 but by the end of their 24-hour fundraising drive last week, Magen David Adom (MDA) Victoria volunteers had almost doubled the figure, pulling in a staggering $211,400.

Incredibly, their original target sum – enough to purchase a 4×4 Life Support Ambulance – was reached within just three hours, prompting a new goal of $180,000 to help fit out the vehicle with medical equipment and supplies.

But again, the revised target was crushed, and the final total means MDA can also buy two new medicycles.

MDA Victoria chairman Glynis Lipson told The AJN how she found it “incredible” to witness the community embrace their Charidy.com campaign.

“Watching the donor board and seeing name after name appear with very generous donations was heartwarming,” she said.

The sentiment was echoed by volunteer Sharon Malecki. “Campaigns like this really demonstrate the power of volunteering and community,” she told The AJN

“There was so much energy in the room because volunteers were working towards a common goal that they felt passionate about, and donors knew that their contributions would make an even greater impact by being matched.

“I love being a part of a community that is positively shaping our world by supporting so many local and international causes through both volunteering and donations.”

Last week’s fundraising campaign was supported by the Les and Eva Erdi Humanitarian Charitable Foundation, the R & S Tatarka Family Charitable Foundation, A B Oxford Cold Storage Co Pty, Marlene and Abe Zelwer, the Dina and Ron Goldschlager Family Charitable Foundation, and Christian Friends of Magen David Adom Australia, who collectively ensured that every dollar pledged was quadrupled.

While the MDA Charidy campaign has now closed, further donations to MDA can be made at www.magendavidadom.org.au/donate.
