RABBI Yorum Ulman is tipped to become the next elected president of the Rabbinical Council of NSW at its annual meeting on Tuesday.

He is expected to take over from the incumbent, Rabbi Yosef Feldman, although he has not officially withdrawn from the race. Rabbi Feldman said that nominations can be made until the day of the elections and he didn’t want to rule anything out.

If Rabbi Ulman takes over as president it will extend a long list of responsibilities he has in the community.

He is the spiritual leader of the Friends of Refugees of Eastern Europe, which has the largest Jewish Russian-speaking community in Sydney, a rabbinic judge on Sydney’s Beth Din and he Australia’s leading rabbi on kosher IVF.

The rest of the executive committee will be elected at Tuesday’s meeting.
