THE NSW Association of Jewish Service & Ex-Service Men & Women (NAJEX) has announced NSW Governor Margaret Beazley as its new patron.

A former judge of the Federal Court of Australia, Justice Beazley has served as president of the Court of Appeal and was appointed NSW’s 39th Governor in January.

“We warmly welcome Her Excellency to this role and we look forward to working with her,” NAJEX president Roger Selby said.

Justice Beazley’s patronage of NAJEX succeeds that of former NSW governor David Hurley, who was sworn in as Australia’s new Governor-General today (Monday).

Selby said the organisation remains as vital as ever as it approaches its 100th anniversary.

“As NAJEX marches towards our centenary year in 2020, we continue to play an important role in the NSW Jewish community through our commemorations of the service of Jewish and other veterans at Anzac Day and Remembrance Day ceremonies, our education about the role Jews played in Australia’s military campaigns and our encouragement of our youth to join service-related organisations through the annual NAJEX Youth Leadership Awards presented to a student in Year 11 of each of the Sydney Jewish day schools,” Selby said.

“NAJEX membership is growing again due to the interest of family members, former National Servicemen and others, and we welcome anyone interested in joining our ranks, especially Jews currently serving in the ADF.”
