Perfect one day, Carnival the next

QUEENSLAND will host the Maccabi Australia Junior Carnival for the first time in 25 years in January 2012.

QUEENSLAND will host the Maccabi Australia Junior Carnival for the first time in 25 years in January 2012.

The organising committee is already in full swing and has appointed two communal stalwarts, Gerald Moses and Michael Solomon, as co-patrons for the carnival.

“Moses and Solomon are not only biblical names synonymous with Judaism, they are also very important to Maccabi in Queensland – they’ve been around for a long time,” carnival manager Paul Myers said.

“Both are outstanding long-time communal leaders and have been both Maccabi carnival managers and state presidents, which places them in a great position to assist the carnival as patrons.

“Their primary role will be to assist the organising committee promote the event, help with fundraising and maybe some special projects.”

Moses said he was excited for the first Maccabi Australia Junior Carnival in Queensland since 1987.

“Queensland hasn’t hosted a carnival for a long time and this is the ideal event to bring the community of all ages together,” Moses said.

Similarly, Solomon said he accepted the opportunity to become a co-patron for the carnival with open arms.

“Carnivals are a unique event in Jewish life and we can guarantee that anyone who comes to the event in 2012 will have such a great time that they will never forget the warm and friendly Queensland hospitality,” Solomon said.

Maccabi Australia president Harry Procel said this carnival has been in the works for two years already.

“We started this to help develop and rebuild Maccabi Queensland and it’s very important for them to have an event like this to focus on,” Procel said.

“We’re very excited because it will involve the communities in both Brisbane and Gold Coast, and this is a very positive step for Maccabi Queensland and Maccabi Australia.”
